Electronic referrals are introduced in modern healthcare systems in order to improve the timely availability of specialist care and digitize the paper process of referring patients to various institutions in the healthcare system, i.e. the exchange of medical data related to this process. By supporting the transfer of patient data from the primary to specialist-consultative health care, electronic referrals reduce the risk of errors in patient data and enable faster delivery of patient care.
